Care & Maintenance
Crafted for longevity. Designed to be lived on.
Your floor is more than a surface—it is a defining element of your space. Each board is shaped by nature and finished with care, designed to age gracefully over time.
With considered care and maintenance for your wood floor and a stable environment, your Oak & Edge floor will develop character while retaining its integrity for years to come.
The First Days
Following installation or finishing, the surface requires time to fully cure and stabilise.
During the first 10 days:
Keep the floor completely dry
Remove dust using a soft brush or vacuum only
Avoid all liquid cleaning products
Do not place rugs, mats, or heavy furniture
Do not apply tape or adhesives to the surface
Allowing the finish to harden undisturbed is essential to achieving its full durability and depth.
Natural Material
Wood is inherently responsive. Subtle movement occurs as it adjusts to its surroundings—this is part of its beauty, not a flaw.
To preserve stability and appearance, maintain:
Temperature between 18–24°C
Relative humidity between 45–65%
Consistent conditions throughout the year
Sudden environmental changes should be avoided, as they can place unnecessary stress on the wood flooring.
A well-balanced interior climate ensures the floor performs exactly as intended.
Environmental Awareness
A refined interior deserves careful control.
We recommend:
Monitoring humidity levels regularly
Using discreet environmental sensors where possible
Responding promptly to fluctuations outside the recommended range
Consistency is key to preserving both the aesthetic and structural qualities of the floor.
Everyday Care
Dry Cleaning
Fine dust and grit can gradually dull the surface if left unattended.
Maintain the floor with:
A vacuum designed for hard surfaces
A soft broom or dry mop
Frequent, gentle cleaning protects the finish and enhances the natural grain.
Light Cleaning
When required:
Use a fine mist of an appropriate wood floor cleaner
Work with a microfibre pad
Ensure the surface remains only lightly damp
Excess moisture should always be avoided. The goal is to clean, not saturate.
Maintaining the Finish
Hardwax Oil Finishes
These finishes require occasional refreshing:
Apply a compatible care oil
Gently buff into the surface
Adjust intervals depending on wear
This process maintains both the tactile quality and visual richness of the floor.
Lacquered Finishes
For lacquered surfaces:
Apply a suitable polish periodically
Focus on high-traffic areas
This enhances the finish, softens fine surface marks, and extends the life of the protective layer.
Deep Care
From time to time, a more thorough clean may be required.
Use a specialist wood floor cleaner
Always work in the direction of the grain
Use minimal moisture
Allow the floor to dry fully before further treatment
Following deep cleaning, the surface should always be reconditioned with the appropriate maintenance product.
What to Avoid
To protect the integrity of your floor, avoid:
Excessive water or wet cleaning methods
Steam cleaning
Harsh or abrasive products
Scouring materials or steel wool
Rubber-backed mats
Allowing spills to remain on the surface
Incorrect care can compromise both appearance and performance.
After the Initial Curing Period
Once the surface has fully settled:
Attend to spills immediately
Maintain a regular cleaning routine
Use only lightly damp cleaning methods
Always use products suitable for wood flooring
Protecting the Surface
Entrances
Use high-quality mats to capture dirt and moisture
Maintain and clean mats regularly
Increase protection during wet conditions
Furniture
Fit protective pads to all furniture
Lift rather than drag items
Avoid sharp or concentrated pressure points
Daily Living
High heels may mark the surface
Keep pets’ nails trimmed to reduce scratching
In Summary
A considered approach to care will ensure your floor matures beautifully over time.
By maintaining a stable environment, cleaning with restraint, and protecting against unnecessary wear, your Oak & Edge floor will remain a refined and enduring feature within your space.
